Opinion: Blizzard "Original" "Vanilla" or "Indie"

About the period of the "Original", "Vanilla" or "Indie" Blizzard that many people miss!

When talking about Blizzard's golden days, it's often said that the company was focused on making games that developers wanted to play, and that's why they were good games.

This point about "the company had developers who did what they wanted to play" is interesting, the vast majority of indie games are games made by passionate developers, who make games they want to play, but few people buy and play these games. (Especially solo devs).

Unfortunately, when making a game you need to ensure that most players want to play, because if you focus on meeting your personal desires as a gamer, you will be niche and unfortunately you will not be able to support yourself economically.

If it is made to sell, aims at profit, aiming at profit, a lot of things are in the background. The larger the company, the less focus there is on fun and addendums.

Blizzard could afford some luxuries, like this, as it was a smaller company, when it was bought by Activision, things went wrong, and now with Microsoft it will be no different, regardless of who is in charge of the expansions, they may be better than they have been recently, but aiming at profit they will have certain limitations to meet the taste of the majority.

There are exceptions in large companies, of course, especially in relation to quality! But realize that they are exceptions!

We are in a vicious cycle where we believe that games need to be Triple A, or Quadruple A to have quality, but we want them to be innovative in game design, game play, etc.

If we were more reasonable with indie games, and gave them a chance beyond the limitations due to the small amount of money to create these games, we would be surprised.

But I'm talking about actually mining, since many indie developers end up succumbing and trying to fit their game into a pre-defined genre, or trendy mechanics of the time, in order to survive.

The reasoning is very close to craftsmanship, when you buy something handmade, by a few people or just one person, you will have something personalized, bordering on exclusivity, with a unique experience designed by someone passionate about what you are doing.

Remember the handmade arts of street artists, the food in a good neighborhood restaurant and other things made with care, the concept is similar.

Anyway, the bigger the company, the less room for innovation due to its commitment to ensuring profit from investors, they can't go wrong, and therefore this game from your favorite franchise will be well canned!

Be sure to play your favorite games, from the franchises you love, but give craft games a try, maybe you'll find your passion for gaming again!
